Because of the central role of liturgical rites in disclosing within a community the important delineations and for presenting the mysterious holiness of God, the liturgical assembly will continue to be, as it has been for centuries, decisive for the church’s self-understanding. It is in assembly that what the church knows to be true can and must be celebrated, and the very physical shape this public praise of the holy God takes will contribute to the slower work of theological reflection.
