Well, we were defeated by the weather last Sunday and had to postpone the parish picnic. Notice “postpone” rather than cancel. I want, firstly, to thank all who were involved in the set up for this event: The Knights, Monica and her music group, the servers, Joanne Plumber and Patty Zumbro, the youth program and the Hispanic community. Secondly, we will hold the Parish Picnic on June 30th here at SLdM on the sport field. Same food, same kids games, same family fun!
A Maintenance issue. Please, oh please, can we put chewing gum in a bin and not on the ground outside the church (which is starting to look pock-marked) or worse still under the pews…ahem! Thank you.
The Gospel this week brings to mind the concept of promise. Jesus says “whoever loves me keeps my word”. We have the saying about people, ‘He/she is a person of their word” meaning that it is solid and secure and with the authority of promise; in His case with the divine authority of His Father. Then Jesus goes on to promise the coming of the Holy Spirit so that we will never be left alone and that Christ’s peace will be with us. God, in Christ ,keeps his promises. Let us always be people of promise.
May God bless you, your families, and the week ahead,
Fr Aidan Peter
