People have asked me where the money for the Rectory extension project and the Vestibule refurbishment and Gathering Area projects has come from. Well the simple answer is your good selves! The manner in which this money has been raised is the result of excellent stewardship over the years. We have several funds that are “ring-fenced” for certain expenditure, only such as the RE fund, the Capital fund, Los Alamos funds etc.
There is, of course, the SLdM Building and Maintenance Fund. This fund has been running for many years and it was the foresight of Fr Charles with our Finance Council. They made the very wise decision to put $1,500 each week from the regular Sunday collection into the fund. It has built up solidly and is well invested via the diocese so that we can undertake projects and repairs as necessary. This has been the source of the funding for these projects. This is an excellent example of good stewardship. This fund also gets topped up by other occasional donations from individual parishioners through the blue envelopes in the pews where it can be specified to go to the Building and Maintenance fund.
We went through the punch list this week and little final sort outs will be undertaken over the next week. In due course we will invite Bishop Robert Barron to come and bless the Statue windows and refurbished entrance to the church. Again, I want to thank you all for your patience whilst the work was taking place. I think you can agree that it was definitely worth the wait.
New banners will be going up on the front of the church this coming week hopefully. Just in time, as one has started to flap loose!
May God bless you, your families, and the week ahead,
Fr Aidan Peter
