Week Of March 15th
Fr Aidan Peter Writes:

April is a month in which we think about and grow in our understanding of what seems a modern reality: safeguarding our children and vulnerable adults. Each parish is undergoing its annual audit on these matters. So that you know who is who with regard to these matters in the parish, Bill LaRocco is the chair of the parish Safeguarding Committee and David Stevens, our Director of Family and Faith Formation, is the secretary. We review regularly the procedures and issues that may arise at our meetings and are always looking for ways to improve our already good track record in this matter.

I said above that safeguarding seems a modern issue but it is not. As concerned members of the parish, and as citizens for that matter, we have a natural care for children and those who are vulnerable, but we live in modern times with new technologies etc that allow for the spread of ideas and behaviors. Most of the time these technologies – TV, Radio, internet, social apps etc are an instrument of good, joy, advancement and fun, but they equally can be a curse allowing the darker side of human behavior access our homes.

Each year we put on a presentation by a professional working in an area associated with safeguarding. This year it will be on internet safety.
So please avail yourself of the Safeguarding Presentation on “Internet Safety in the Home” on April Wednesday 25th at 7pm in the parish hall.

This is open to all parishioners but especially parents of school children and catechetical programs. You will also note that in the bulletin there is always a safety tip offered each week in the box entitled “Keep ‘em safe”

God bless you and your families,
