Well the Christmas Festivities draw to a close today with the Feast of the Epiphany, when the Christ child is honored and worshiped by the Three Magi. The Word made flesh is announced to the World; He is the God of all humankind.
The Gospels narrate that the three Magi did not go back to see Herod on their way home but “by a different way”. This not only means a different road but also with a completely changed outlook on life. Why so? Because they had encountered Emmanuel, the God who walks with us. They had been changed utterly by the experience. Let us dedicate ourselves to this Year of Mercy as it unfolds before us, taking advantages of all the graces being offered to us to encounter the Mercy of God. May we become ever more “merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful”, “ slow to anger, full of compassion and rich in mercy”. Let out first reaction to anything and anyone be mercy and not judgement; “Judge not that you be not judged”.
On a side note…have you broken your New Years’ Resolution yet?
God bless you and your families this Holy New Year.
May God bless you, your families, and the week ahead,
Fr Aidan Peter
