This week we see the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday 10th. I know what you are thinking, “but wait a minute it was only just Christmas”! Well Easter is early this year, 27th March. Indeed it is almost the earliest it can be. A couple of thoughts for you to think about for Lent. Firstly, we must pray for all those members of our community who are journeying into full communion with the Catholic Church. It is a great sign of joy and hope for our community that people like us so much and feel at home with us and our way of following Christ that they want to be one of us. Baptism of babies is on one level maintenance of the numbers but adults young and old wanting to join our community is the sign to us that our mission to witness Christ is being effective and we are growing.
Secondly, what is Lent all about? Perhaps you can look at it this way. It is the season for spring cleaning the soul! As the early light of Easter starts to reveal the resurrection it reveals to us those places in our lives that have been in the shadows and there we find with some embarrassment that there are some sinful spots that need to be cleaned up. So it is time to do some spiritual spring cleaning of the soul with good old fashioned elbow grease (prayer). It is also a great time to make your Holy Door visit and go to confession.
Please take your Lenten preparation seriously because Christ our Savior takes you seriously. Don’t let him down!
God bless you, your families, and the week ahead.
