Fr. Aidan Writes:
This Second Sunday we are introduced to one of the important figures of Advent, John the Baptist. This kinsman of Jesus, echoing the words of the Prophet Baruch, calls on us to prepare for the arri- val of the Lord, making everything straightforward in our lives so that we may all encounter the salvation of God. Baruch reminds us also that this encounter allows us to enter into the Glory of
God; our true home is with him.
Thus we prepare, as Paul hopes, so that our love, knowledge and perception of the will of God, here and now, may increase. Advent is, therefore, a time of refocusing ourselves, of taking stock of where we are in our lives of faith. When we do this properly, we recognize that most of the time we are pretty good at living our lives faithfully with our families and friends. We also notice the things that spoil that image of God that we know we are created to be, our sins. That is why this preparatory season of Advent (which means “coming”) is a good time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To that end, we will have our Advent Penance Services on Monday, December 6th 7:00 – 8:30 pm in English and Tuesday, December 14th 6:30 – 8:00 in Spanish. Also, there are Evening Masses on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5:30 pm in English and Tuesday and Friday at 7:00 pm in Spanish.
Wednesday the 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. A Holyday of Obligation. There will be Holy Mass at the normal time and also at Noon, 5:30 pm and in Spanish at 7:00 pm. Also, there will be a Mass in Los Alamos in English at 7:00 pm.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT. ONE OF THE NEW PLANTERS WAS HIT, SCRAPED, MOVED AND ITS WATER LINE HAS BEEN BROKEN. PLEASE LOOK CARE- FULLY WHEN YOU ARE PARKING. THANK YOU!
God bless,
