Fr. Aidan Writes:
When a priest is ordained, he often has an ordination card printed to commemorate the occasion and to give to friends to put in their prayer books, hoping that they will remember to pray for them. And may I gently remind you, to pray for your priests because, boy do we need those prayers!
On the card, there is often a favorite piece of scripture chosen by the new priest to indicate his love of God and his ministry as a priest ahead. My piece of scripture is the last line of today’s Gospel from John 10:10, “I came so that they might have life and have it in all its fullness” (The NAB version used here in the USA uses the word “abundantly”).
This is still true for me today, as it was over thirty years ago when I was ordained. I see my vocation as a priest in the Josephite Community as one of helping people discover fullness of life by supporting them (you at this moment in time) as they grow deeper in their relationship with God the Father, through their relationship with Jesus in the Holy Spirit. It is very much in the line of the great Jew- ish exclamation, “L’Chaim, to life!”
So, God bless you and your families ….
And, “To Life!”
