Sacrament of Reconciliation for Sponsors and Candidates

Sacrament of Reconciliation for Sponsors and Candidates
We received a letter from Archbishop Jose Gomez stating his concern about many of the Confirmandi and sponsors not receiving Holy Communion during the Ceremony. Archbishop Gomez mentions in his letter:

“It is important to remember that the fullness of Initiation, begun in Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation, is expressed in the reception of the Eucharist, which nourishes and sustains believers to live out their missionary discipleship […] A person who does not have a serious impediment to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation also does not have a serious impediment to sharing in Holy Communion. A person who does have a serious impediment to sharing in Holy Communion, also has a serious impediment to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation”.

Due to this concern, Fr Aidan has made it a requirement for Sponsors, as well as candidates, to be present for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There will be 2 dates available. To make things easier for Fr Aidan and me, we have taken the liberty of separating the Confirmation Program into two groups. The 1st group will be having Confessions on May 15th, from 5pm – 6:30pm in the church. The 2nd group will go to confessions on Wednesday May 16th, from 5pm – 6:30pm in the Church. We will have about 6 priest available for this penance service. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me or Fr Aidan. Thank you and God bless.
