This is a reminder that on Sunday, January 21st, we will have a mini retreat focused on what it means to be Pro-Life. We will start with Mass at 9am in the Hall, so please be there by 8:45. After the the Mass, we will have activities and talks regarding pro-life, such as abortion, capital punishment, euthanasia, suicide and murder. At 2pm, we will be going to City Hall in Santa Maria. From there, we will walk to Planned Parenthood. Many of our Josephite priest, including Fr Aidan Peter, will be present, along with people from the community of SLDM. The retreat is only for Year 1 Candidates, however, the “Pro-Life Walk ceremony” at City Hall is open to the public, so you are welcome to invite all your family members. The “Pro-Life Walk” is also a service project, so you will get a service project for attending and participating*.
What is the Pro-Life Walk?
The Pro-Life Walk or Walk for Life is an annual pro-life walk that hopes to raise awareness of abortion, and in doing so, put an end to it. However, as previously mentioned, this involves more than abortion. It involves capital punishment, euthanasia, murder and suicide. The walk is held every year on or near January 22nd, “the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the US Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion”. The goal is to be a vocal and visual message that people of the West Coast stand for life, to reach out to women harmed by abortion and to inform society of the damage done to women by abortion. Participating in the Walk for Life in our community of Santa Maria, is a way to take the Gospel outside of our walls and to preach against social immorality and injustice and defend the dignity of every human person. We become a voice for the respect of human dignity, something that the Catholic Church has done since its beginning.
*Participating in any “Social Change” communal activity, is a requirement under the guidelines of the Confirmation Program Archdiocese of Los Angeles-Chapter 10, pg1-5.
