April is Child Abuse prevention month and each year our parish’s Safeguard the Children Committee sponsors an evening for parents focused on various strategies to keep our children safe. This year our event is Wednesday, April 27th from 6:30-8:00pm in the Parish Hall and our Guest Speaker is Sandra Brown, a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy with years of experience in educating parents on a range of topics related to keeping children safe. Don’t miss out on this very informative talk. (This will be the final parent Faith Growth Opportunity for the RE year. Attending counts as a Faith Growth opportunity for RE parents of year 1 & year 2 Communion students. One is required each year.)
Year 2 Communion Student RETREAT: ALL of the children in year 2 Communion classes on Wednesdays & Thursdays will have their 1st Communion Retreat THIS Saturday, April 16th from 8:30am until noon. They will also be joined by the 2nd year Communion students from SLDM school. This retreat is a required part of the process for all receiving the sacrament of Eucharist. Parents all signed up for a volunteer role the day of the retreat. Please contact me if you have questions about your role at the retreat.
FIRST COMMUNION PRAYER PARTNERS for Year 2 Communion Students: On posters that will be hung in the church, we will invite the parish to sign up to pray for our First Communicants as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. Thought for the week: “We love our children because they are children, not because they are beautiful, or look, or think as we do, or embody our dreams. A child is a child.” –Pope Francis (Amoris Laetitia 10)
Tip of the Week: Last week a new document written by Pope Francis was released. Our local Bishop, Bishop Robert Barron, shares his initial thoughts on the Pope’s new exhortation about marriage and the family called “Amoris Laetitia”. http://www.wordonfire.org/resources/article/first-thoughts-on-amoris-laetitia/5134/ You can also find more sharable graphics from Pope Francis’ new exhortation at http://TheJoyOfLove.com
