Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we await with joyful anticipation for the 1st Communions tomorrow. I wanted to pass on just a few reminders:
Times
The 10 am 1st Communion Mass is for Children who attend the Wednesday Afternoon Classes
The 1pm 1st Communion Mass is for Children who attend the Thursday Evening Classes
All children are to be at their assigned mass 1 hour prior. They will meet their teach by the side of the church (parking lot side) and once their entire class is present, will go to inside the church to take their group photo and then as a class, go to the hall to await the start of mass. Please ensure your child is there on time tomorrow.
Photos
If you are interested in taking professional portraits, the photographer will be available in the hall from 8am -9am and 11am – 12pm.
Each parent will receive a print of their child receiving the Eucharist, as a gift from the parish. You will be notified via email when photos are available for pickup.
If you wish to take your own photos during the mass, please remember no flash photography and please remain in your seats. Myself and other teachers will be strictly enforcing keeping the aisles and sides of the church clear. Last year many of the pictures of kids receiving the Eucharist were ruined by people in the background trying to take their own pictures. Please make sure you pass this information on the friends and family who attend the mass as well.
Live Stream
The 1st Communions will be livestreamed, during the event, via the parish website www.sldm.org Once the 1st communions are over, the recordings will be made private and a link will be emailed to you so that you can download the video for your keeping.
Presentation Sunday
1st Communion Certificates will not be distrusted tomorrow. They will be distributed during Presentation Weekend May 19th- 20th. Please use the link below for more information and to sign up for Presentation Weekend. If you signed up during the 1st Communion retreat if you could please sign up again via the online form, it would be greatly appreciated.
Presentation Weekend will take place the weekend of May 19th-20th. As a community of believers, First Communions should be celebrated with the whole community. Due to the large number of children in our program, celebrating the communion mass on the weekend is just not possible. In order to allow the community to celebrate with our young children we offer what is known as Presentation Weekend. Your child will come to mass dressed in their First Communion outfit and during the Mass, Father Aidan will recognize them in front of the whole community and present them their First Communion certificate. Presentation Weekend is a beautiful witness of the children’s faith to the entire parish community and an opportunity for the community to congratulate our young people. Please note: It is very important that whatever mass you sign up for that you attend that mass.

Continuing Faith Formation
In the midst of all the excitement of 1st Communion, I wanted to take a moment to encourage you to consider continuing your child in faith formation. 1st Communion is another step in your child’s faith formation process but the process is an ongoing one. Last year, only 10% of the children who received 1st Communion returned for ongoing faith formation. There are a lot of exciting changes that are coming to the Faith Formation program next year, changes that I believe will make weekly faith formation the highlight of your child’s week. Registration Forms can be found on the website and turned into the Faith Formation Office Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
Last Day of Class
There are still 2 weeks of class after the 1st Communions. So please make a note that the last day of Class is May 16 for Wednesday Classes and May 17th for Thursday Classes.
